The capital of Brunei, Bandar Seri Begawan (BSB), is a juxtaposition of modern buildings and traditional stilt houses. The city is unlike many other leading Southeast Asian cities in that it has a spacious and unassuming feel to it. One definitely gets a sense of the oil money that has made this country rich in the downtown mosque and shopping malls but it lacks the flashiness of other cities. It is possible to spend a few days here visiting sights but to really get a feel for what Brunei has to offer, explore the surrounding areas via day trips. It is easy to navigate the city's grid system that is bounded on three sides by water: the Brunei and Kedayan Rivers on the south and west, and the tidal canal on the east. The easiest and most popular form of transport is the water taxi.
